Our Review of Example hitting Sheffield on his UK tour.
A couple of us here at at Dance Euphoria headed along to witness yet another Example gig, on his third UK tour. After seeing him back in 2009 on his first ever UK tour and then again in 2010 supported by Wretch 32, we knew what sort of a night we were in for – loud, energetic, with plenty of bouncing and crowd surfing! Example right now is not only taking music to a whole new level, but taking the standard of UK music to all new heights, already having had two consecutive numbers ones this year with ‘Changed The Way You Kiss Me’ and ‘Stay Awake’ along with a number one album, with ‘Playing In The Shadows’.
Just from walking through the doors of the Sheffield O2 Academy, you could just feel the anticipation in the air, with the crowd waiting eagerly for his appearance as the DJ got the crowd warmed up with some top floor fillers. As the DJ warmed down and fled the stage, the now crowded floor started to get really excited, chanting, ‘Example, Example, Example’… as the lights went down, within a few seconds, Example appeared on stage, with the crowd going ballistic, starting off the night with the opening track on his new album, ‘Skies Don’t Lie’.
From there on, Example delivered officially unreleased tracks from his new album such as, ‘The Way’, ‘Playing In The Shadows’ and one of our personal favourites, ‘Wrong In The Head’. In interviews with the build up to his latest album release, Example was aiming for all his latest material to be aimed at live shows, and from that, you could see that it worked perfectly. Half way through he dropped his new track ‘Midnight Run’ which for us, was one of the best drops of the night along with ‘Shot Yourself In The Foot Again’ (See the video at the bottom of the review). The crowd were just off their feet in the air, and the bass could have lifted the roof right off the building, it was EPIC. Through out the rest of the evening, it was great to see him still bring out some of, what now seem classics, with ‘Won’t Go Quietly’, ‘Watch The Sun Come Up’ and ‘Kickstarts’ along with the heavy bassed and loud ‘Hooligans’ which always gets the crowd hooked.
As the gig was coming to a close, we could feel a lot of people wondering when ‘Changed The Way You Kiss Me’ was just going to take off, and as expected, Example finished the gig with the the number 1 smasher, which topped off an amazing night. You see so many live gigs, and there is no one better than Example, to lift the roof off the building and get the crowd completely hyped. For the third time of seeing him, he gets better and more exciting every time. Roll on the arena tour in 2012! Pick up tickets now
